It is with a touch of humility that I write to our treasured clientele whose loyalty to the brand has been the driving factor that propelled our product. Thoughts of nostalgic fondness are awakened, as I recall memories from over three and half decades in the industry which were invested to produce quality poultry products to the local clientele.

Our journey began way back in early eighties when the concept of raising broiler chicken was an alien phenomenon which was not known to poultry consumers of Sri Lanka. During early seventies, the poultry consumers consisted primarily of consumers who purchased, a variant of chicken which was commonly known as ‘Gam Kukul Mas’. Therefore when we commenced our small scale operation to raise broiler chicken, we received immediate positive feedback from the local community at Mahawewa. It was a novel way of raising chicken which was embraced by the local community. Breaking into the industry as a small scale farmer was a challenge in itself as it was a monopolized industry which left little room for small scale farmers to make their mark. I am thankful for the unwavering support extended to me by my wife, ‘Irin’ and loyal employees who were the catalyst that drove our burgeoning business.

In an era where consumers often question the quality of meat which they consume, ‘Weehena’ strives to deliver superior quality poultry products that exceed consumer expectations. Despite being an island nation that is renowned for its fishery industry, the country has a large segment of poultry consumers who seek fresh poultry products to fulfil their daily protein intake. The industry has evolved into the ‘number one’ livestock agriculture in the world as well as in the country with an ever growing popularity for fresh products. As industry professionals who are sensitive to customer needs, we strive to stay true to our promise of delivering the ‘true taste of freshness’ to our treasured consumers.

Our endeavor is to have a daily supply of 100% locally grown and farm raised chicken to the market. Our tireless efforts and expertise are invested towards staying true to this promise.

It is the faith placed upon us by our treasured customers which has driven us to truly make our mark in the industry. As we look back at our legacy which spans over three and half decades, we want to extend our sincere thanks to our treasured customers who have always stood by us, supported us and have given us positive feedback which have often been the spur that propelled us forward. At the inception as a small scale Company, our operations were restricted to catering to the poultry needs of communities in the Mahawewa area. As the years went on, we evolved gradually and expanded our operations to become a Company that delivers fresh poultry products to all corners of the island.

We currently own several livestock farms and also keep a strong relationship with a network of out-grower farmers. Whilst more than 85% of the livestock comes from our own farms, we have a system in place to train and ensure that out-grower farmers uphold the same industry standards and execute same practices when producing their products. This enables us to deliver our product within a day of slaughtering with unmatched quality and taste.

Recently transformed to a family owned Company, we pride ourselves in being an ethically driven entity who values consumer satisfaction over profit. As a Company that is not registered in stock market, our prime focus is to uphold the standards which we have been able to sustain for over thirty five years. We take strict measures to stay abreast with international standards and follow procedures which are approved by the ISO (International Standards Organization). We also adhere to GMP standards, and HACCP standards. We also have the SWISS Certification, all of which attest to our credibility.
