The exact value of the deal has not been disclosed but Subsea 7 said it is worth between $500million and $750m.

Under the contract, Petrobras will hire a trio of Subsea 7 pipelay support vessels: the Seven Waves, Seven Rio and Seven Sun for a three-year period with a following one-year option.

Seven Waves will kick off the new contract in Q1 of 2022, followed by Seven Rio in Q2 and Seven Sun in Q3.

Each vessel will undergo minor modifications at a shipyard prior to the work.

Subsea 7 didn’t disclose further details of the work, such as the offshore field the vessels will be deployed at.

Daniel Hiller, vice-president Brazil for Subsea 7, said: “We value our long-standing relationship with Petrobras and these new contracts reflect well on our track record of delivering successful PLSV activities in Brazil, achieving high standards of safety and a strong operational performance.”

In May, Subsea 7 won a similarly-sized deal with Petrobras for development of the Mero-3 field off Brazil with offshore operations to begin in 2023 and 2024.

That contract includes engineering, fabrication, installation and pre-commissioning of several components including 50miles of rigid risers and flowlines, 37 miles of flexible service lines and 30miles of umbilicals, using a fleet of pipelay vessels.
