Dr (Mrs.) Kumuthini.Sivathas, daughter of Mr. K.T.Sriskandasingam & Mrs.S.Pushparathy, was born in Navindil, Jaffna, Sri Lanka, in 1977. She received her primary education from J/Uduppiddy Girls’ College and intermediate education (GCE A’ level biology) from J/ American Mission College, Uduppiddy. She was an eminent student in her school and received 1st place in English day competitions from grade-03 to GCE Advance level. She successfully completed her higher education from University of Jaffna with BSMS degree (Bachelor of Siddha Medicine & Surgery), in 2005, and the first class honors in Counseling Psychology, and also M.Sc. in Food and Nutrition (ongoing) at University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and Post Graduate Diploma in Hospital Management (ongoing) at University of Wickramarachchi, Yakkala, Sri Lanka.
She joined Provincial Department of Indigenous Medicine, Northern province (PDIM-NP) as Medical Officer (Public Health) for Vadamaradchy South & West divisional secretariat area, in 2008, and became Planning in-Charge of PDIM-NP prior to Department of Indigenous Medicine, Eastern province (PDIM-EP) as Medical Officer in-charge (MOI/C).
During her tenure at PDIM-NP, she was appreciated by Deputy Chief Secretary/ PlanningNP, Secretary/ Ministry of Health & IM-NP for the blueprint for the Indigenous Medical sector. She established well-equipped Planning unit at the department as no any unit functioned for planning section previously. And implemented many successful projects at provincial level. She initiated overseas exposure visits especially for Medical Officers successfully, in 2010. Also she initiated first national conference of Indigenous Medicine with the collaboration of Unit of Siddha medicine, University of Jaffna. She assumed duties in Eastern province as MOI/C, in 2012. She herself planned and created a new building for Central Dispensary (Ayur.), Pethalai and acquired a land legally for Panchakarma hospital, Pasikudah. Pasikudah is the famous tourist destination in Eastern province.
She, as a person, voluntarily helps to the vulnerable of Koralaipattu for their education and to meet their familial expenses by getting aids from abroad and well-wishers. Therefore, she was offered by Sri Lankan government as Justice of the Peace for Whole Island. Even though her passion for social services started from her childhood, her endless services and concern to the society is till continues.
In addition to her medical career, she wishes volunteering and writing articles on health and social impact. She wrote, designed and published three books, one booklet, pamphlets and many leaflets related to health. One is related to research and other two books are related to her medicine.
She is truly glorious for receiving the two awards – Asia’s selfless Humanitarian Services Award and Asia’s outstanding contribution and dedication in social services award, and extend her sincere thanks to Asia Awards powered by World Research Congress.
