Securing India's sixth medal in badminton in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, the star Indian pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwik Rankireddy secured a gold in the men's doubles over England pair of Ben Lane/Sean Vendy.

The Indian pair made an imposing start to the match by winning the first set by a 21-15 margin over Lane and Vendy. They continued their dominance in the second set with a 21-13 margin.

This is the second successive CWG where the duo have won a medal. In the 2018 edition at Gold Coast, the duo had won a silver medal after losing the final to Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge from England in the final. The duo played a key role in helping India win the gold medal in the mixed team's event in 2018. They were also an integral part of India winning the silver in the Birmingham after they failed to defend their title following a loss to Malaysia in the gold medal match.

The triumph in Birmingham has continued what has been an incredible year for Shetty and Rankireddy. The duo played a huge role in India's historic Thomas Cup victory earlier this year. The 2022 edition saw India being crowned world champions for the first time in history.

Shetty and Rankireddy have secured what is India's third gold medal in Badminton on Monday (August 8). In the men's and women's singles category, Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu won the gold medal. Meanwhile, India also got bronze medals through Kidambi Srikanth and Treesa/Jolly and Gayathri Gopichand in the men's singles and womens' doubles. The country also won the silver in the mixed team event.

Quite incredible, Shetty and Rankireddy had won all their matches in the tournament in straight sets. They defeated Pakistan's Murad Ali/Muhammad Irfan in the round of 16 before beating Australian pair of Jacob Scheuler and Nathan Tang in the Quarter-final. In the semi-final, they made light work of the Malaysian pair of Chan Peng Soon and Tan Kian Meng.
